Keeping vsftp Very Secure
FTP is not generally considered to be a good option for file transfer because of the lack of encryption. However, it’s still used because there are so many legacy processes and applications that use FTP. While many FTP server options are available, vsftp is the server used by Red Hat, SUSE, Debian, and even the developers of the Linux kernel.
To review, the standard vsftp configuration file is vsftpd.conf. The directory varies by distribution. For example, it’s in the /etc/ directory for Ubuntu and the /etc/vsftpd/ directory for Red Hat.
