Understand, explain, and participate in change management.
“Nothing is constant but change,” and a modern network is no exception to the quote. The complexity of operating systems and networking hardware forces us to accept change as a constant. Unless you like being controlled by your network, you need to learn how to control the changes that must be deployed. Without change control, network, security, and software administrators (and managers) run the risk of undoing each other's changes or, worse, implementing changes that cause more problems than they solve. An additional risk is that changes made will not be properly tested, documented, or thought out. If the change does cause problems, there will be no way back.
