There is no universal definition of trust, and it’s a mistake to assume that because you are trustworthy according to your own definition, people should or will trust you. Trust should never be assumed and must be earned in every interaction. That’s easier said than done because trust has different meanings for different people.
Trust is influenced in large part by our personality. People who speak the same language, share the same character strengths, and are motivated the same way tend to seem more trustworthy to us. We understand each other and know what to expect.
