Economically speaking, in 2009 the world was still reeling from the effects of the financial crisis of the previous year. Countries were going into recession and Barack Obama was beginning his first year in office as President of the United States. Meanwhile Donald Trump, a businessman and presenter of the reality TV show The Apprentice, joined Twitter, three years after its launch. In sport, Leicester City were having a good season in League One – the third tier of English football.
