Creating an ARM template using Visual Studio

Visual Studio 2015 and later versions provide syntax and dependency-checking features as you type. While typing, it also allows you to use the track changes feature through a source control repository. Visual Studio helps you by providing the information necessary to construct a template.

We will now create a template to provision a Service Bus topic and a subscription:

  1. Open Visual Studio, add a new Azure Resource Group project, and name it.
  2. Once the project is named, you'll see a list of templates. Choose Blank Template from the list of options:
