24 You’ve Got a Rogue Developer

Every shop has at least one developer who seems to be on a different page from the rest of the team. No matter how often he breaks things, he is sure that he is on the right track and everyone else must be wrong. How can you keep this loose cannon on-task and productive?

This particular problem can be solved only by the manager. If you are a developer, it’s not your job to rein in your teammates (and beatings in the parking lot are generally frowned upon in most jurisdictions). If you are a customer, you can drive features and stability, but individual developers are not issues that you should personally interfere with. Leave this to the development manager.
