is controlled at 2.5 mph/sec rate up to full speed of 55 mph. Deceleration is at 2.5
mph/sec rate by regenerative braking from 55 mph down to 10 mph, and then by
pneumatic air-brakes to full stop.
The dc motors are 4-pole compound wound with commutating poles, using both
series and shunt eld coils, which are changed as required during the acceleration
