Electrochemical Battery
Electrical power, although a very convenient form of energy to distribute and use,
cannot be easily stored on a large scale. Almost all electrical power generated by
utility power plants is consumed simultaneously in real time. However, various tech-
nologies are presently available to store energy on a relatively small scale in electri-
cal, mechanical, chemical, and magnetic form. The energy storage densities in these
alternatives and their typical durations of use are compared in Table12.1.
