Cropping

The simplest way to make your images stronger is to crop them. We often tell our students that if they’re struggling with a composition, simply getting in closer will help. Cropping out extraneous stuff will make your images much better. Our advice is to crop in camera, but this isn’t always possible. When you can’t get closer to your subject, you can crop the image in post.

Start by looking at your overall image. What’s the main subject? Are there distracting elements within the image that could be eliminated by simply cropping them out? Look for things that are tangent to the edges of the frame that attract your eye, thereby taking your attention away from the main subject. Let’s take a look at an example.
