CHAPTER 5

General-Purpose Lowpass Filters

This chapter is devoted to simplified design with general-purpose lowpass IC filters (the EXAR Corporation XR-1001/8). Each of these ICs is a 4th-order switched-capacitor lowpass filter providing 24-dB/octave (Butterworth) of rolloff outside of the passband. The series of 8 ICs provides for Butterworth, Bessel, or Chebyshev (0.5 or 0.1 dB of ripple) responses, depending on model number. Each filter response is available in 50:1 and 100:1 clock-to-corner ratios. All of the ICs have the same 8-pin pinout, so one can easily be substituted for the other, depending on application.

As in the case of other switched-capacitor filters, these ICs have the ability to tune the corner frequency of the filter response ...
