The theory of random processes plays a crucial role in the analysis of communications systems. It comes as no surprise then that the ability to model random processes is crucial to the successful simulation of these systems.
4.1 Random Sequences
Consider the case of a single fair (i.e., not loaded) six-sided die. On any given roll, each of the six possible outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 is equally likely. Over a large number of rolls, we would expect each outcome to occur on about one-sixth of the rolls. Similarly, for a 20-sided die, we would expect each of the 20 possible outcomes to occur on about 5% of the rolls.
