There are four major Fourier analysis tools used in communications engineering [2]. The Fourier transform (FT) links signals from the continuous-time domain to spectra in the continuous-frequency domain. The Fourier series (FS) links periodic signals from the continuous-time domain to line spectra in the discrete-frequency domain. The discrete-time Fourier transform (DTFT) links signals from the discrete-time domain to spectra in the continuous-frequency domain. And finally, the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) links signals from the discrete-time domain to spectra in the discrete-frequency domain.
