After the types and sources of variation in the analyze stage are understood, the improve stage of the define, measure, analyze, improve, and control (DMAIC) problem-solving methodology can begin to define and implement changes necessary for process improvement.

Objectives

There are several issues to be completed within the improve stage of DMAIC:

• New process operating conditions are determined.

• Failure modes for the new process are investigated and addressed.

• Benefits associated with the proposed solution are estimated by the team and approved by the sponsor.

• Process improvement is implemented and verified.
