Transferable skills

from rocks to books

Anne V. Hiller Clark

Abstract

It may appear at first that there would be few transferrable skills between work as a geologic project manager supervising hazardous waste site cleanup for a State agency and work as an academic librarian. However, that has proven not to be the case. First, this chapter explores the skill set of project management considering how in-depth those skills need to be in a library setting, and includes some lessons learned. Second, the oft-related skills of facilities care and maintenance, and disaster preparedness are discussed.
