To Filter or Not to Filter

The question of whether or not to filter at the client side is a difficult one. There are benefits and drawbacks to filtering messages at the email client. If you are the email administrator for an enterprise, you should take into account the number and type of users you support. Some questions to ask yourself include

  • How sophisticated is my user base?

  • Will my users accept a little bit of hassle in exchange for receiving less spam?

  • Would my users accept “losing” messages permanently in exchange for no inconvenience?

  • Does my organization operate under any regulatory oversight that governs how I must manage email?
