Abstract

This chapter offers a comprehensive overview of IoT’s impact on agriculture, reshaping farming practices. IoT, the interconnection of physical devices via the Internet, promises to revolutionize how we interact with technology. The chapter explores IoT’s application in agriculture, highlighting its benefits, including enhanced efficiency, waste reduction, and improved crop yields. It also acknowledges challenges like high infrastructure costs and limited rural connectivity. Sensor-based IoT’s crucial role is emphasized, showcasing how sensors gather vital data on crops, soil, weather, and livestock, optimizing farming methods. The importance of choosing suitable network and communication protocols, tailored to farm locations, is also discussed. Real-world case studies from diverse countries, including India, Thailand, China, Malaysia, the Philippines, and the United States, demonstrate IoT’s transformative impact on global farming practices.
