The core components of a Microsoft BI solution are SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), and SQL Server 2008 itself. SQL Server is often used as a data source or an intermediate repository for data as it is being validated in preparation for loading into an OLAP cube. The ETL toolset, called SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), also requires a SQL Server 2008 license. Each of these core services comes with its own set of management interface tools.
