Calculated Members and Named Sets

Although OLAP cubes contain summarized and synthesized subsets of your raw corporate data, your business requirements might dictate that you add more aggregations. These are called calculated members because you most often create them by writing MDX expressions that reference existing members in the measures dimension.

For instance, if you want to create a calculated member on Profit Per Unit (as Internet Gross Profit divided by Internet Order Quantity) and use that as the sort definition in a subsequent MDX query, you can use the WITH MEMBER statement to create a new calculation on the fly.
