It’s a fact now that most people’s destiny lies in cities. This includes your children and your grandchildren and their children too. With this in mind, this chapter looks at ways that you can play a part in shaping the future of your community. Assuming that a city’s residents have interest and motivation, they now have more ways than ever to have a voice and to contribute to the function and success of their community. In this chapter, I'm especially interested in sharing ways to become an urban innovator, including discussing the increasing popularity of the role of the citizen scientist.
The work of cities and the role of civic engagement is to improve conditions for the community — including elevating the quality of life and the standard of living for as many people as possible.
