Fixed-Length Transactions
As described in previous chapters, the interactions between SOA consumers and services are enabled by messaging. For Web services, the service interface, including WSDL and XML Schemas, defines the structure and allowable content for those messages. XML provides a generally platform-agnostic method for encoding message content and is the de-facto standard for messaging.1
Current state technologies such as Java have deep rooted support for XML and provide the ability to create XML messages, as well as navigate and read XML message content.
