40. You Tube is the Second-Largest Search Engine

Although YouTube isn’t technically a search engine, it is the second most popular site used to conduct searches on the Web. Since late spring 2009, YouTube has consistently outranked Bing and even Yahoo! for searches conducted on a site. According to a 2010 comScore report, YouTube cemented itself as the second-ranked site for conducting searches (see Figure 40.1).

Consumers and members of your audience probably don’t know that YouTube isn’t technically a search engine. To them, it’s a place where they search for videos. As a marketer, knowing that YouTube is such a well-used site to search on should spur you to use this knowledge to your advantage when implementing your strategy.
