Part III: SAS Capabilities for Social Network Analysis

The third part of this book presents the most relevant SAS capabilities in order to develop and deploy a social network analysis model in a real problem. Some of these SAS features should be used before the social network analysis modeling, while some of them should be put into place after the model development, basically to analyze the outcomes. Chapter 10 describes the common statistics procures provided by SAS in order to previously understand the data available. Descriptive analysis; including frequencies and distributions; unique and multivariate analyses, and clustering methods are included in this chapter as a way to prepare the analysts to further tasks in addition to the social network analysis.

Chapter 11 shows the Link Analysis Node comprised in the SAS Enterprise Miner, which was used to develop the case study of this book. It presents how to define nodes and links, how to use the macros (this is particularly important to the case study), which measures are available, and how to analyze the networks. Chapter 12 lists some relevant tools to visualize social networks, such as the macro %DSTOCONST and the software Network Visualization Workshop. Finally, chapter 13 describes briefly a brand new procedure provided by SAS to work with graphs and networks. Procedure OPTGRAPH computes a wide range of network measures, as well as performs some relevant group analysis including communities, connected components and biconnected ...
