Social reading platforms: diagnosis and evaluation

Abstract:

Social reading is a special communicative practice that has emerged as a result of new technological developments, particularly developments in electronic publishing. Reader participation in text (post)production process (in the form of annotations, underlining, reviews, ratings, and so on) gives a whole new dimension to the act of reading when shared with like-minded readers. When shared reading becomes global, thanks to the Internet, specifically created programs and platforms, designed for the purpose of facilitating exchange among readers, enrich the experience of reading books and launch the experience well beyond the narrow circles of traditional reading clubs.
