3.1 Commercial Formulations
Commercial formulations are a combination of polymer chains and small molecular additives tailored to the consumer’s requirements. Additives are included in the formulation to either enhance the polymer’s inherent properties, termed modifiers, or maintain those properties under environmental stress, termed stabilizers. For instance, modifiers may be added to improve the polymer’s inherent impact resistance, while stabilizers prevent polymers from losing impact resistance during service (Table 3.1). Both stabilizers and modifiers are requirements for polymeric, photovoltaic (PV) components.
