We managed to get one solar-thermodynamic system into
Sudan—it made a few strokes, provided you packed ice around the
condenser—not very practical. The Sudan test site is shown in Fig.
34.2. Figure 34.3 is an example one of the pumps we installed in
Babougou, Mali in 1980.
Anthony Derrick, Peter Fraenkel and I had started work on the
project in 1979. Figure 34.4 shows us at one of the PV Pump test sites
in the Philippines in 1981. As soon as this project was under way, we
decided to form our own company, and we had the support of ITDG.
