40.15 Integration of Photovoltaic into Roofs: “Sunflate”
I constructed the first house in the world covered with photovoltaic
roof tiles in the shape of normal, traditional roof tiles in 1985—The
Junction Box to The Sun (Fig. 40.32).
The electricity production from sunlight was achieved with 432
polycrystalline PV-tiles “Sunflat” and 432 mono-crystalline PV tiles
“Sunflate” from Telefunken Electronic, Heilbronn, with a capacity of
about 8 kWp, producing approx. 7800 kWh per year. The project was
sponsored by the EU Commission under contract No. ESC-R-096-D.
