sustainable future energy supply for Europe for their technical and
economic feasibility and to provide a positive vision for decisions to
be made in the future. The results of the study were the following:
• The overall energy demand in Europe (EU15) should be
reduced by 62 percent from 4500 W per capita in 1990 to
1700 W per capita in 2050.
• Ninety-five percent of the energy demand should be
supplied from renewable sources (even when considering
only those technologies that were already developed at the
time of the study).
• Bio-power should supply 500 W/capita; solar thermal
collectors, 330 W/capita; wind power, 210 W/capita; ...
