The institute went into operation with only three people as
staff and had two offices borrowed in the headquarters of Cabildo
de Tenerife. Its growth in these 20 years has been astonishing.
Presently, the institute has a multi-disciplinary team of more
than 232 professionals, comprising three R&D areas—renewable
energies, engineering and environmental Sciences—which are
complemented by a Dissemination Department. It has its own
headquarters in Granadilla, owning a terrain of over 400,000 m
