Solaris Firewalls

There are many firewalls for the Solaris operating environment, both commercial and open source. An in-depth introduction to firewalls and packet filtering is outside the scope of this book, both because of the complexity of modern firewalls and because of this book’s focus. A firewall product from Sun Microsystems, SunScreen Lite, may be downloaded for free from www.sun.com. It is described in Appendix H, “SunScreen 3.1 Lite.” A popular open source firewall called IP Filter (developed by Darren Reed) is introduced in this chapter. You will see what it can do, how to install and configure it, and how to construct rules, which define IP Filter’s behavior.
