Securing E-Mail

It is widely known that the standard Internet e-mail is insecure. It does not guarantee integrity, privacy, or authenticity. Actually, it does not guarantee anything. However, you can use some industry-standard technologies to improve this unfortunate situation. These technologies include Pretty Good Privacy (PGP), Secure MIME (S/MIME), and others. They work at the sender’s and recipient’s end. Other technologies, such as Transport Layer Security (TLS), may be used to secure communication between Mail Transport Agents (MTAs), such as sendmail, as well as from the mail servers to clients (IMAP and POP3 over SSL/TLS).
