There are two types of routing in IP networks: static and dynamic. Static routing, as its name suggests, is fixed routing. Network administrators define static routes, and these are kept constant unless changed manually. Dynamic routes, on the other hand, are calculated at runtime depending on network conditions.

A routed protocol is a protocol that can be routed across different networks. For example, IP is a routed protocol. It means that using some other mechanism, a decision about forwarding IP packets from one network to another can be made.
