Who Is the System Administrator?
Now that we've looked at the role of the system administrator, we need to know how someone assumes it. To do this, we need to understand a little more about what it means to be a “user,” although we'll look at this in more detail in Chapter 3, “User Administration.”
Anyone wishing to use the system is allocated a login name, a password, and an identification number, known as a UID (User Identification). Any user that is assigned a UID of 0 possesses special privileges, commonly known as “super-user” privileges. This means they have the power to do anything they wish!
