We don't need to add any additional routes, as these were built when the link was created, but we do need to control what traffic can run across them. By default, RIP is enabled on the system and will run over all the network interfaces that it finds. What this means for us is that packets will be directed toward the PPP interfaces and will force the connection to be made. Again, this isn't the behavior that we would like, so we have two choices. These are to either disable RIP, or to stop it from querying the dialup connection.
