CHAPTER 8 Cancellation

INTRODUCTION

Eastern philosophy and religions emphasize a sense of balance in the universe. In Buddhism, we have the Yin and Yang while Hindu deities both create and destroy. The light side balances the dark side. So it is with combinations of speakers. We have just completed a study emphasizing the additive side of speaker arrays. Now we will venture to the dark side: cancellation. While combination may occur in one place, cancellation appears in another. If we know how to harness this dark force, we can use it to our advantage and steer the sound away from some areas and toward others.
