Using Ink to Add Annotations and Comments
You can freely ink anywhere on a Word document, PowerPoint slide, or Excel document.
The most common reason to do so is to mark up an electronic document, just as you would
add handwritten comments to a printed copy of that document. These freehand comments,
which sit in the drawing layer on top of any text in the text layer, are called annotations. In
addition, Word allows you to add handwritten comments that appear in balloons when
viewed in Print Layout view.
