Out of the box, AutoFormat can cause as many
formatting headaches as it cures. However, you
can tame the AutoFormat beast and actually
make it useful by following these tips:
Try to “clean up” documents before using
AutoFormat. Headings should be sepa-
rated by line spaces, if possible, so that they
aren’t mistaken for short paragraphs.
If you have any custom styles you want to use, apply those first. The default
AutoFormat settings preserve manually applied styles.
