Fixing Setup Problems
In general, Office 2003 does a good job of respecting earlier versions of Office. All your
preferences, for example, are stored in separate branches of the Registry based on the ver-
sion number, so customizations you make in one program will not affect the other.
However, some unavoidable side effects are caused by using multiple Office versions:
■ Launching document icons (by double-clicking icons in an Explorer window, for exam-
ple) launches the Office 2003 version of the program. If you want to open a document
in Word 2000, for instance, you must open the older program first and then open the
file.
