Combining Two or More Data Types in One Document
In most cases, Office applications cannot open files created and saved in the native file for-
mat of another application. One exception is when you open a Word file in PowerPoint. In
that case, PowerPoint attempts to construct a presentation based on the file structure. This
operation is most effective when the Word file is a simple outline.

NOTE
If you try to use an Office application to open an HTML file generated by any of the
Office applications, the file opens—but Office reads the XML tag in the file and launches
the originating application to load the file.
