There aren't many potential problems with using categories. The only danger exists if you're modifying the Registry to share the Master Category List with other users. Any time you modify the Registry, there's the potential to corrupt the Registry, accidentally remove a key, or enter a key in the wrong format or in the wrong place.

You should always back up the Registry before you begin any modifications.
