Sometimes security is more a matter of determined cantankerous behavior than spiffy new technologies. Consider the case of a company that we’ll call NoGo Corporation (to protect the guilty). The company did all of the right things. They added a firewall to their system. The network administrator studiously applied every operating patch as soon as the vendor found problems and issues fixes. The company had a security policy in place and held regular training sessions for users. Finally, the network administrator consistently audited the system for unneeded user accounts and squelched them. It sounds like a formula for security success on any network.
