Appendix E. Solaris Tunable Parameters

Solaris 9 can be described as a self-tuning operating environment (OE), which manages OS tuning based on current load requirements. However, you can perform manual tuning operations by manipulating tunable parameters specified in the /etc/system file. The following sections describe some of the important kernel, TCP/IP, and NFS tunable parameters that are used in system tuning. However, unless you clearly understand what you are doing, do not modify any of these parameters. Incorrect settings may result in system crashes or even inability to boot the OS.

Table E.1 describes kernel tunable parameters available in the Solaris 9 Operating Environment.
