Kerberos is a network authentication system developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Solaris OE versions 2.6, 7, and 8 have used Kerberos to secure network applications. Kerberos Version 5 is built into Solaris 9.
Kerberos enables administrators and users to conduct remote sessions securely. Strong authentication and encrypted data transfers enable network resources to be shared freely, without fear of unauthorized access to data and resources.
