Summary

The Telnet and the Rlogin applications implement the remote login feature as part of the Application layer in the TCP/IP reference model. The Telnet protocol is based on five components: Network Virtual Terminal, Commands, Modes, Options, and the Option Negotiation process. Rlogin is also based on the components that are used to build the Telnet application. However, Rlogin provides a simpler implementation and does not cater to a diverse collection of clients. Rlogin also implements commands to control character display, interrupt a process, and advertise window size.
