Figure 5.1. The difference between these two images is the placement of the Speedlite. For the left frame, the 580EX II was in the hot shoe. For the right frame it was moved to about 60° left on the Lighting Compass and paired with a fill flash at 90° right. Going off-camera creates shadows which add a sense of depth and shape.
