Development to production migration

You can also deploy reports and datasets manually. Data sources need to be created manually. A manual deployment to production will protect your SQL Server Data Tools environment from accidently deploying to the production environment.

Let's follow John as he trains someone on the operations team on how to deploy the sales commission report and the shared data source to production.

Let's create a new folder for our manual deployment, called Finance. We will use this folder for the rest of the chapter.

  1. Open up the Report Manager, http://localhost/Reports.
  2. Click on the toolbar item called New Folder.
  3. Name the folder Finance.
  4. Click on the OK button.
