Certification and Accreditation
Certification and accreditation are two separate processes used to test, evaluate, and approve systems for specific purposes. The certification process includes several steps to evaluate, describe, and test a system and all of the controls that are in place to mitigate risks to the system. Once a system is certified, an accrediting authority provides a formal declaration that the system is approved for operation.
TIP Systems are often operating during the certification process. However, there may be specific restrictions on what the system can be used for until it is formally accredited.
