Open Library Service in a Broader Perspective


The chapter has two main purposes:

1. To locate the open library concept and practice in a longer library history perspective along with developments like open shelves and automated delivery and checkout.
2. To compare staff-less solutions in libraries to similar practices in other public sector institutions and in various business contexts.

The purpose is to enable a discussion of ideas to get inspiration from and also to identify significant differences between the development of libraries and other public and private institutions.
