SELECTION
The sourcing, curation, and selection of startups represents a key function of startup programs, and it is one of the main tasks that other parts of the organization usually delegate to engagement programs. These three functions are carried out in two phases: (1) during the recruitment stage, culminating in the admission gate; and (2) during the activation stage, with intermediary gates and graduation (Figure 14.1). Intermediary gates may also route startups toward different paths and desired outcomes, as discussed in Chapter 9.
