Chapter 2. Blockchain in the Enterprise

As every business technology leader has heard, blockchain is going to disrupt every major industry. The result has been a proliferation of white papers, proofs of concept, and minimum viable products, yet very few wide-scale implementations within the enterprise. In other words, lots of talk, but not much action.

The enterprise blockchain industry is like a middle school dance: everyone is excited to be there, but no one knows exactly what to do. While some of the kids are more mature than others, most are awkwardly standing around, all dressed up but waiting for someone else to make the first move.

Because there are relatively few kids on the dance floor, in this chapter, we give you snapshots of real blockchain success stories within real companies. We have chosen the industries where blockchain is innovating most quickly: banking and financial services, supply chain, real estate, government, energy and utilities, and health care. These are the kids at the dance, roughly sorted by maturity.
