Abstract
This chapter introduces a set of basic statistical measures for describing data. Data generally consists of an extensive number of observations that are too complicated to be understood through observation. In order to respond to new challenges in transportation and traffic problems, it is essential to enhance statistics in this field that provides the basis for policy researches. This chapter introduces several statistical techniques that provide ways to condense and organize information into a set of measures that enhance the understanding of the complex data. It covers the statistical techniques most frequently employed by transportation specialists.
